Sweded. [Mar. 3rd, 2008|09:51 pm]
I went to see 'Be Kind Rewind' with Est. this evening,
and I have to say: it was great.

I could go on about Gondry and 'imagination',
but you know the score thatways.
The character which stood out to me the most was the elder lady who wanted to rent 'Driving Ms. Daisy', and the incredibly sensitive way in which depression was dealt with in her regard (the final flicker-dark scene and her face in particular).

I cannot help but think that the cheesy back-story (60 days or else, community coming together, etc.) was meant as a backdrop for the uneasily simple, innocent and beautiful splashes we get throughout the film, not unlike Gondry's previous film 'the science of sleep'.

Go and see it. It will leave with an uncomfortable feeling of you wanting to cry, but not knowing why.

"Are you in love with me?"
"I don't know how...you do that..."
"You know you're in love with someone when you talk to them for at least 20 minutes every day in your head."
